What to do in Kuressaare?
Welcome to Kuressaare!
Kuressaare is the only town on Saaremaa, serving as the administrative centre of Saaremaa Parish and Saare County. It is located on the southern coast of Saaremaa and is also the westernmost town in Estonia.
The town of Kuressaare emerged about a thousand years ago at the support and trading site of the ancient islanders at the mouth of the Põduste River. It later developed around the bishop’s castle, built in the 14th century and preserved to this day. Located on the seaside edge of the town, the castle is Kuressaare’s oldest building and once served as the stronghold of the Bishops of Saare-Lääne.
There is a wide range of activities to choose from. In our recommendations, we highlight the best experiences curated by Visit Saaremaa.
