Did you know?
The apartment is in the building at Tallinna 19B. Tallinna 19 is the old courthouse, completed in 1790 and built for the new lower court created by the Russian administrative reform of 1783. The building also housed a prison, the police administration and a branch of the treasury, and kept a similar role during the Republic of Estonia. Its walls and all the carved decoration are made of local Kaarma dolomite. The building was destroyed in the Second World War, restored in 1945 and used as the headquarters of a Soviet border guard unit. In 1991 it passed to the Estonian Border Guard, and the local customs office and passport desk were also here. Since 2014 the building has housed the Kuressaare centre of the TalTech Estonian Maritime Academy.
