Location
The apartment is on Uus Roomassaare Street in Kuressaare’s historic resort district, right next to the town park. Walking around the nearby streets, you can feel Kuressaare’s classical charm: lace-trimmed wooden houses with pretty verandas, and people working in their gardens or walking their dogs.
Did you know?
If you walk from the apartment towards the park, the last overgrown plot on your left was once the site of the Roomassaare mud spa, founded in 1876 by Dr Wladislaw von Szeliga-Mierzejewski. It was the most modern spa in the Baltics at the time. To promote Saaremaa mud therapy, Mierzejewski and his son wrote a guide, “Putevoditel na grjazi i morskija kupanja v Arensburge”, which was read all over the Russian Empire and brought many visitors to Kuressaare.
The Roomassaare mud spa operated until the First World War, when it was looted. It reopened in 1923, but only ruins were left after the Second World War.
